Course Description:

The Instrument Pilot Program is designed to elevate your flying skills by teaching you to operate an aircraft solely by reference to instruments. This course prepares you to fly safely in a wider range of weather conditions, including clouds, fog, and low visibility. You’ll receive comprehensive ground and flight instruction focused on instrument navigation, procedures, and decision-making. Whether you’re pursuing a career in aviation or looking to enhance your personal flying capabilities, this rating is an essential step forward.

What You Need to Begin:

To start your training, you must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Before your first flight, you’ll need to pass a medical exam and receive a medical certificate from an FAA-approved Aviation Medical Examiner. You’ll also need to provide proof of U.S. citizenship or obtain TSA clearance, as well as a private pilot certificate.

Eligibility:

Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate.
Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
Hold at least a current FAA medical certificate (Third-Class or higher).

Training Requirements:

Receive and log ground training on instrument flight rules (IFR), procedures, and systems.
Pass the FAA Instrument Rating Knowledge (written) Exam.
Accumulate at least 50 hours of cross-country Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time, including 10 hours in airplanes.
Log at least 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight time, including 15 hours with an authorized instructor.
Complete a long cross-country flight under IFR conditions with specific requirements.
Successfully pass the Instrument Rating Practical Test (Checkride), including an oral and flight portion with an FAA examiner.
